Planning for Ancillary Product - Pop Punk Digipak

Elements to Include on my digipak

Below are the elements that I will need to include on my digipak. It will be helpful to have this as a reference when planning it because it will ensure that nothing will be left out of the design. I found this information through research of conventions and legal requirements and analysis of similar products, i.e. pop punk albums in digipak format. I created this using a website called app.wisemapping.com then saved it as a jpeg to upload to this blog.

Similar products that have inspired my design:

In the slideshow below are some of the album covers that have inspired me and influenced the outcome of my ancillary product planning. Because I have analysed these products already, I have been able to identify conventions that I can now apply to my own work. The albums are Uno, Dos and Tre by Green Day, Underclass Hero by Sum 41 and 5 Seconds Of Summer's self titled debut album.

The house style applied to the digipak that I wil be producing consists of bright colours in contrast to black and white, which images will be photographed in. This contrast will create and eye catching piece of album artwork whilst remaining conventional due to its similarities to Dreen Day's Uno, Dos and Tres album trilogy and Sum 41's Underclass Hero album that I analysed during the genre research stage of my coursework.
Above are samples of the colours that the house style of the digipak will consist of. These are a turquoise blue, a purple, black and white.

Above is a colour sample showing various shades of teal that may feature on the album artwork that is silar to that which is used on the album artwork for Green Day's Dos.

Above is a colour sample showing various gradients of purple that may feature on the album artwork, just as multiple shades of green were used on Uno by Green Day.

Font Planning

Band name font - Drafts:
This is the first font I considered using. The font is called "Dead Kansas" and comes from www.dafont.com. Although it is conventional and highly suitable for my ancillary product, I will not use it because it does not allow the changing of the text's colour. It is important for the name of the band to be purple so that it follows the house style and stands out. I did, however, manage to find a similar font from a different website that can be made purple.

After searching for a similar font to the previous one, I found "Masterplan". I did plan to use thisas it is conventional, represents the band as rebellious, follows the house style and is easy to read. It comes from www.fontspacecom and is simple to use, improving the process of creating my ancillary product. I will not use this, however, because it does not allow the use of numbers, and the band is called "Smash 41".
